Wonderful primitive folk art painting in acrylic on plywood panel, showing folky birds in trees, ducks in pond, and seagulls above. 11″ x 15″ sight, in hand-made “slat” wood frame.
Signed to lower left “J.M.Poirier”; label to back from Nova Scotia gallery.
CARVED FOLK ART “EAGLE”
Wonderful primitive carved wood folky microcephalic “eagle”, 12″ high to back, 19″ high to wing tips, 24″ wing span, all mounted on painted wood base. Origin Gimli MB c. 1940; obtained 1985.
Each wing separately carved, with 2 wire nails to fit into body; body & head one piece, supporting branch of one piece, base separate. Very Folky !
AMERICAN MINIATURE PORTRAIT PIN ON PORCELAIN
Wonderful hand-painted miniature portrait fired on porcelain 2″ x 1.75″ oval, mounted in 10K yellow gold frame (tested) 2.5″ x 2″ oval, to nbe worn as pin or brooch.
Signed to back; …sitter ?…artist ?
Primitive C-clasp, but lacking pin; scratch to face (see photo 2).
LARGE P.O.W. WWII BOAT-IN-BOTTLE
In a 3 litre wine bottle, spectacular 4-mast schooner sails away in front of a town with red-roof houses and 3 lighthouses !
18.5″ long, 5″ diameter, original cork & plastic top marked “Martini”
MAKONDE DREAM SCULPTURE (AFRICA C.1940)
Imaginative carving of 2 creatures fighting, all carved from a single piece of wood 8″ diam. x 21″ long ! So much wood was carved and removed to reveal this dramatic subject.
I obtained in Victoria in 1994, from family having travelled to East Africa, likely Mozambique, in 1939-40.

TRAIN & BOAT PAINTED WOOD PANEL C. 1880
Hand-painted with a locomotive engine & tender, and a steam ship, both within an heraldic-form shield. No identification of where or when, but appears to be British flags on boat.
CARVED PIERCED MAPLE SMALL FRAME
This clever frame comprises figural maple leaves, and measures 9″ x 5.25″; c. 1900.
It contains a tintype photo, gentleman posed leaning on a stuffed chair, c.1880.
AMERICAN WOOD DRY GRAIN MEASURE
Great piece of folk art, an American wood grain measure, 1-piece steamed and lapped side with bottom inset with square nails.
Lovely primitive painting of grape vines on the sides; 6″ diam. x 3.5″ high, commonly found plain…this is hand-painted !
Founded 1878 in Wilton NH, to manufacture standard-size dry measures; this is 1 quart size, the smallest.
OAK CARVED PORTRAIT KAISER WM II ?
Great piece of folk art, a carved solid oak round portrait plaque 13.75″ high x 13.25″ wide x 1″ thick.
Deeply hand-carved in detail c. 1890, more than 1/2″ deep, a portrait of a military man, perhaps Kaiser Wm II ?
Clues to subject may lie in crown and medallion…….
PINE CARVED LETTER RACK
Pierced carved front, 2 removable partitions, carved, shaped incised back.
Lovely oxidized original untouched surface; higher partition sympathetically replaced.
